Every year, there comes a session that officially tells me summer has arrived.
This year, it was the Nighbert family's beautiful family mini session at Koteewi Park just outside of Cicero, Indiana. The wildflowers were finally starting to bloom, the evening breeze was warm, and the golden sunshine settled over the fields in the kind of way photographers dream about all winter long.
The First Wildflower Session of the Season

There is something magical about being the first family to step into a field that's beginning to bloom. The textures are soft, the colors are fresh, and everything feels full of possibility.
This session marked my first wildflower family session of the 2026 season and it couldn't have been a more perfect evening. The weather was mild, the sun filtered beautifully through the grasses, and every little breeze added movement that made the images feel alive.

Not every child runs toward a camera with excitement—and that's completely okay.
One of my favorite parts of photographing families is getting to know each child's personality and working at their pace. The Nighbert family's sweet little girl was a bit shy (and quiet) when we first met, but instead of rushing her, we played, explored, and gave her space.
Before long, smiles became giggles, and curiosity replaced hesitation. Those authentic moments are always my favorite because they're earned rather than forced.
