I think it's so funny when a session starts with Mom saying, "good luck because...x-y-z-p-d-q". I always want to just give her a big hug and be like "honey... take a deep breath...we got this!"
If you saw our post from the other day, I shared my own stressful experience trying to get fall photos of my kiddo, then you know I've been there too. The mom trying to get the kid to stop running around, to listen, to stop choosing that moment in time to go unexplained crazy. But the difference is, as I discussed, that kids nearly ALWAYS listen better for someone they don't know (like yours truly) then for you. So when a Mom says "good luck" I know she's feeling hopefully optimistic but already a bit defeated too.
It's also my queue to know which kiddo is going to need extra attention, extra accommodations and who is really setting the mood of the shoot. Dana was no different. When they arrived she told me that her little was some what notorious for hating photos, so i knew my goal immediately was to charm this little stinker into being my new bff so that momma could FINALLY get photos of the sweetpea she so dearly loves...and not the kermugin that always appears for the camera.
So when the gallery was delivered and mom reached out to me, I was SO excited! When sending it out initially I had to fight myself NOT to call her and be "Momma... look, look" but instead a bit after sending the photos to their new home, Dana reached and we did our little happy dance together. We played some games, charmed the stinkers out of the girls and ultimately got the shots that warmed mom's heart...which is really what makes every shoot, every ache muscle and time away from own kiddo, SO WORTH IT. To get that 5 second little happy dance time with a mom, who didn't know it was possible!
