Noblesville High School Senior Photography
Wildflower Senior Session For Haylee W
Senior year has a funny way of feeling both incredibly far away and suddenly right around the corner.
For Haylee and her mom, one summer morning brought us to Coxhall Gardens in Carmel with coffee in hand, a gorgeous sunrise ahead of us and plenty of reasons to laugh before most people had even started their day.
This one felt especially meaningful for me. I've known Haylee's family for years. We used to be neighbors, and they were some of the very first people to trust me behind a camera. Fast forward through all those years, and their oldest is now preparing to graduate from Noblesville High School -- and I feel OLD. lol.
Getting to photograph her Senior Lux Session feels a little bit like seeing everything come full circle.

Noblesville High School Senior Photography That Feels Personal
How to Plan Senior Pictures Around Your Personality and Interests
Senior photography shouldn't feel like showing up, standing in a few predetermined spots and smiling until someone tells you you're finished.
Before a senior session, I like to talk with both Mom and the senior because they're often coming into the experience with slightly different wish lists.

Mom may already be picturing the portrait she'll frame at home or tuck into graduation announcements. The senior may care more about an outfit, location or overall look that actually feels like them.
My goal: combine the two together to create some Senior Session magic!

Haylee is a dancer, performing with her school dance team while also competing in competitive dance. She's busy, confident and very much in the middle of everything that comes with this stage of life.
Our goal was to create senior photographs that celebrated her exactly where she is now—not a generic version of what a high school senior is supposed to look like.

Senior Pictures at Coxhall Gardens in Carmel Indiana
Why Coxhall Gardens Is a Beautiful Location for Senior Photos
For the first portion of Haylee's Senior Lux Session, we chose Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, Indiana.
July had the gardens showing off. Her family had shot there before with me when she was little and I knew the morning sky would DELIVER.

Wildflowers were everywhere, butterflies floated through the landscape, and the gardens gave us plenty of variety without needing to spend our morning driving from place to place.
That's an important part of choosing a senior photography location. A beautiful spot is great, but a location that gives us several different backgrounds within a relatively small area can create much more variety in the finished gallery.

Coxhall gave us soft boardwalk portraits, summer flowers, open spaces and beautiful morning light—all within the same session.

Why Sunrise Is Perfect for Summer Senior Photography
The Best Time of Day for Senior Pictures During an Indiana Summer
Yes, we met at sunrise.
And yes, coffee was absolutely part of the plan.
But for a July senior session in Indiana, that early alarm came with a pretty fantastic payoff.

Instead of working through the heat and humidity at the end of a summer night, we were able to enjoy the gardens before the temperature climbed. The park was peaceful, the morning light was beautiful, and we had a much more comfortable environment for moving around and creating different looks.
The sunrise also gave us gorgeous directional light that was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.
By the time the rest of the world was getting into its Saturday routine, we already had a morning full of photographs + laughs AND Haylee and her Momma were on to their next Dance meet.

What Is a Senior Lux Photography Session?
Why Multiple Locations and Outfits Create More Variety in Senior Photos
A Senior Lux Session is designed for seniors and their Mommas who want more than a quick update.
Instead of trying to squeeze every idea into one short session, the experience gives us room for multiple looks and two different locations or dates that we plan together. For instance, Haylee really wanted to do something with summer wildflowers AND winter snow.

The Senior Lux option means we can create distinctly different pieces of the gallery instead of asking one location and one outfit to accomplish everything.
One look might feel soft and natural (things Mommas often love). Another might be more polished, bold or connected to something the senior loves. It gives us a good balance.

For Haylee, our Coxhall Gardens morning was only one part of her complete senior photography experience—which means there's more of her senior story still to come.
Planning Senior Photos With Both Mom and Your Senior
How Parents and Seniors Can Plan a Senior Photography Session Together
Senior photos occupy a unique little space in family life. They're photographs of the senior, but they're often incredibly important to Mom too. Sometimes these visions are in alignment and some times not.
That's why I don't think either person should be left out of the planning.

I like to chat with BOTH about the senior's style, interests and ideas while also making sure we create the photographs Mom is hoping to have when graduation arrives.
And once we're actually shooting? It's supposed to be FUN.
Haylee, her mom and I spent most of this morning laughing. There was no need to turn senior pictures into something overly serious just because graduation is a big milestone.
We can create beautiful photographs and have a really good time doing it.
