When Love Looks Like A Gift

Siblings Gift Grandma a Mutli - Generational

Photo Session For Her Birthday

Abby reached out about the kind of gift money can’t buy: memories made together.

Her mom, aunts, and uncles had come up with the sweetest idea—to give Grandma a family photography session for her birthday. One that included everyone: her children, their spouses, the grandchildren, and even a great grandchild.

As a Westfield family photographer, sessions like this are such a joy. They’re a beautiful reminder that family photos don’t just freeze a moment in time—they become heirlooms.

Westfield’s Fall Fields, Touched by Frost

made for a location on MY DREAMS

We met early in the morning in Westfield, Indiana. The kind of morning that makes you pause—where the fall foliage still glows with warm tones, but the tips of the grasses are kissed with silver frost.

It was stunning. A literal dream setting for photos.

The family chose a neutral styling palette that blended perfectly with the natural textures of the field—soft creams, warm browns, and rich earth tones that created just enough variation to feel harmonious without being overly matched.

A Multi-Generational Family Session

with Westfield Family Photographer

With sessions like these, we treat it like a giant extended family session—but each household basically gets a mini built in.

For example, we start with:

  • Full group portraits (the whole crew!)

  • Then Grandparents + each generation, including 1:1s

  • Each household together

  • Individual siblings & kiddos

  • Cousin shots and grandkid-only groupings

  • Fun candids along the way

It’s about capturing the big picture while also making sure everyone walks away with images they personally cherish.

One of Grandma’s daughters (the oldest sibling) fell effortlessly into her “firstborn helper” role, assisting with organizing siblings, positioning groups, and keeping everyone smiling. It was such a sweet, natural dynamic to witness—and such a help to me behind the camera!

Styling Tip: Coordinating Without Matching

If you're planning a session with this many people, styling matters.

Here’s what I always recommend:

Pick 2–3 base colors in a neutral or earthy palette—think creams, browns, grays, and soft muted greens or maroons. Then let each family choose outfits that fit those tones *and* their own comfort.

This creates a cohesive look in photos without everyone feeling like they’re wearing a uniform.

It also helps your location shine—like in this session, where the family’s wardrobe blended perfectly with the frost-tipped grasses and autumn trees.

Large group of people, including children and adults, walk through a sunlit autumn park. Warm clothing and smiling faces create a joyful mood.

Thinking About a Gift That Lasts?

If you’re a mom (or daughter, or granddaughter) thinking about gifting something meaningful to your family—this is it.

📸 Multi-household sessions are great for:

- Holiday gifts for grandparents

- Celebrating milestones (birthdays, retirements, anniversaries)

- Getting siblings + cousins together once a year

- Building a visual family legacy

Every session is styled with intention, paced with grace, and split into individual “mini” moments so every household walks away with something to frame.
