A Sweet Celebration at MacGregor Park

Some sessions stick with you—and Baby Valerie’s heirloom session in Westfield, Indiana was one of them.

Held in the late spring at MacGregor Park, this family session was more than just a photo shoot. It was a celebration of Valerie’s first year of life. With flowers blooming, sunshine streaming through the trees, and the happiest one-year-old front and center, the day couldn’t have been more joyful.

This is exactly what I love about being a Westfield Indiana first birthday photographer capturing the kind of in-between magic that blends milestone, memory, and family connection.

From Newborn Photos to 1st Birthday Magic

Valerie and I go way back… to her newborn session! Getting to see how much she’s grown—those once-tiny fingers now digging into frosting—was such a special full-circle moment.

Now let’s talk about the cake. Valerie didn’t just nibble—she dove in. With frosting on her fingers, her nose, and probably a little in her hair, she radiated joy.

Cake Smash Tip for Parents:

Here’s a little trick I always share with my clients:

**Let the cake sit at room temperature for at least 30–60 minutes before the session.**

Cold frosting can feel weird to babies—many will cry or ignore it altogether. But when the cake is soft and easy to explore? It becomes a sensory dream and a perfect photo moment. Valerie proved this tip works like a charm!
